September 2004 Archives
It's been a crazy busy summer and I should have posted to the blog about a hundred times. Instead I'll write it all here in this post.
The summer couldn't have started off better. My Detroit Pistons won the NBA championship in June. I've seen every game since the last title in 1990 so this was huge for me. I felt like I won it with them. I was fortunate enough to get to 3 playoff games. Two first round games, one in Detroit and one in Milwaukee, and game 4 of the Finals in Detroit. We won every game I attended. You can see some of the pictures here The crazy thing is, the summer is over and training camp is only a few weeks away and I can't wait. The Pistons should be even better this year. We added Antonio McDyess, a year of experience, and a little swagger. I think we'll be in a position to do it all over again this year. I can never get enough tshirts, hats, and posters. Anyway, Brooke, David, Daniel and I will be kicking off the new season in Grand Rapids on October 20th Stay tuned for a posting about that event.
It seems like this summer was yet another summer full of weddings. In July two of my very best friends got married in Lansing. I had a great time there. I got a chance to visit a number old friends that I hadn't seen in years. I even took some time to visit the old work place. That brought back a lot of great memories. I really miss my old friends, Phil, Tim, Jess, Joe, Daniel, Rick and a bunch of others. Hopefully we'll get back to Michigan soon. Anyway, Josh and Hillary's wedding was fantastic. The ceremony was beautiful and the party was cool. Josh is one crazy dude and so is his Dad. They were all dancing crazy and having a good time. I think I needed a few more drinks before I jumped into all that. I'm looking forward to hanging out with them more this fall when the new Piston season begins. Oh, I still have to meet their new dog Chauncey. In case you're wondering, he is named after Chauncey Billips.
Finally, Brooke and I capped the summer off and our first year of marriage with a much needed vacation, belated honeymoon and anniversary celebration on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas. We went on August 21st and we got lucky. That was the one week in between all of the hurricanes. We sailed to the Western Caribbean and stopped in Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozmel. In Haiti, we spent our day on a private beach drinking out of coconuts, snorkeling and baking in the sun. In Jamaica, Brooke and I got to swim with a Dolphin. That was awesome, what more can I say. I didn't think anything could top that until we got to Grand Cayman. While we were there, we took a small ferry boat out about 6 miles off the coast of Grand Cayman to the famous Stingray City. Those Stingrays are cool. You can see them in our photo album. In Mexico, we took it easy and spent the day shopping. There's a whole lot more to say about the cruise but it's a long story so I'll just say we had a great time, and we were sad to leave our waiter Edwin and out Stateroom Attendant Richard. Life's a whole lot easier on a big boat.
Oh, just a few other tid bits. The first year of marriage has been smooth, looks like we're on our way to year two. Also, just this weekend on Saturday, my Cousins in Laws Jaison and Julie Koss had a little, well make that big baby boy. Nikolas Jack Kane Koss weighed in at an impressive 8lbs 12oz. That's gonna be one big boy. So, I guess technically Nikolas is my new cousin but in Brooke's family I'm his proud Uncle. Uncle Heeb to be exact.
Well, that's the summer in a nutshell. I was a good one. I'm looking forward to fall.
I've just been accepted into the progam. Now what? I guess I'll actually have to start posing some interesting infomation and generate some traffic. I've been meaning to start a Detroit Pistons Web Log for some time but I know how lazy I am about posting new material. For a while, I was looking for a content managment system that could automatically supply content like scores and AP news. That would free me up to post just special articles once in a while. If anyone knows of a good way to accomplish that, let me know. I need a Content mgt system that works with Postgres SQL. Anyway, if you get a chance, click on one of my iTunes links and buy some tunes.
