I was going to write about my experience at the opening midnight IMAX showing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Potter grasped the number one spot at the box office this weekend leaving Shrek II in the dust. However, I have changed my plan ... instead, I am going to write about The Day After Tomorrow and my opening weekend experience with that movie.
TDAT was a mediocre movie. There... my full review in one sentence. The dialogue was cookie cutter, the SFX were great, the plot did not exist, the premise was intriguing and the movie was... mediocre. I don’t feel like I wasted two hours of my life staring at people freezing. I do feel I was entertained for two hours; entertained with tornadoes, a cold storm and a giant wall of water.
There were two MAJOR plot lines that were left unresolved. Frankly, this lack of the gathering of loose ends bothered me most.
I give this movie exactly 2.5 out of 5 ... whatever. 5 stars, 5 popcorn buckets, 5 smiles. Rent it, definitely. However, don’t waste $9.50 a ticket UNLESS you are a disaster junky or need a one hour adrenaline rush and one hour nap.
