I know they beat the Wings and I should be wishing for their demise as a hockey club (being that I am a Wings fan) however I am still supporting their run for the Stanley Cup.
The Calgary Flames are a gritty, fast team that show heart and courage every game. They fight, they wear you down and they try to beat you every second of every game.
Go Flames.
OK, so now what? E-Mail is insecure because generally, it is transmitted and stored in plain text ... how can we circumvent that?
Easy!
Encryption! PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) is one top competitor that full integrates into Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora, Entourage, Apple Mail and is available for most the MS Windows and Mac OS X platforms.
GnuPG, a less graphical however, full featured replacement for PGP is available for FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, MS Windows 95 through XP and Mac OS X.
Another secure e-mail contender is HushMail... an easy to use encrypted web-based e-mail service. And if you are in to using packets and TCP connections for encryption *wink* then StegTunnel. Oh, and never forget about steganography.
Steganography is fun.
I own and frequently wear a t-shirt with 'i read your e-mail.' printed in bold white text on a dichotomous all black background. I wear it because I can indoctrinate others when they ask... "What does that mean?", "My e-mail?".
I have explained the concept of E-MAIL BEING AN INSECURE MESSAGING METHOD to nearly 100 people ... maybe more. If the person is bold enough to inquire they are also generally interested in what I have to say ... e-mail is almost as public as this blog.
I want you all to know this: 'i' is relative. 'i' could be your boss, your IT department, the recipients boss, a cracker who has broken into an ISP's mail server, the person sitting at the intended recipients desk and probably that carnival ride guy down the road, too.
My exaggeration in this matter is satirically poignant. Keep sending your e-mail. Keep sending all of your love, your personal and your financial matters via postcard. Yes ... I liken e-mail to a postcard.
A postcard that the world seems to believe is sent in a tiny digital privacy shell.
I suppose it was bound to happen ... the switch ... which is the latter part of the bait and switch. MoveableType, the software that runs this and many other blogs, has changed their pricing tree after producing an EXCELLENT and FREE product (read: bait) for quite awhile now.
Don't get me wrong ... I will pay for open source and free software if I feel the product is worth the cash. Hopefully, MoveableType makes their new 3.0 version very valuable ... otherwise, I fear that they will lose their marketshare to other still free and capable blogging tools.
Per the suggestion of Daniel Luke and thanks to Daniel Vine and his development iCapture, I was able to view my site through the eyes of Safari 1.2. The verdict? Not good (look at the calendar) ... yet.
*EDIT 2004.05.13 00:00*
Fixed.
I didn't realize my index template made this site look like crapola in Internet Explorer. It looks great in Mozilla Firefox :)
I will fix things ASAP.
*EDIT 2004.05.11 18:22*
Almost fixed. Things are a LOT better then they were. Though, I still need to test this site on the best browser on any platform.
I'm sorry ... but I have to voice my opinion on the Atkins Diet I think the subject of this post says it best.
The Atkins Diet is a lucrative scheme targeted at a FAT 4$$ USA. Look at us we are indulgent, uncaring and predominantly uneducated about our health. We are the perfect targets for a fat cash con.
Do people really think that high fat, high protein, low carb, grease dripping hamburger with extra-everything-but-the-bun is good for them? Everywhere I go to lunch has a low-carb wallabahoozit with bacon and extra sauce this society has gone mad.
I know this diet is a trend however, in the short-term this trend may exist, it will set people up for health catastrophe. Read this article, this article and this one, too.
Granted, an appropriate and doctor regulated low-carb diet may help you lose weight AND stay healthy. However, an appropriate and doctor regulated ANY KIND OF diet may help you lose weight AND stay healthy, too. It is a matter of eating smart and exercising not eating low-carb at your office desk.
I will NOT eat low-carb just to lose weight. I refuse. I will however, eat healthy to lose weight AND LIVE A HEALTH LIFE STYLE.
Oh, and where has exercise gone in all of this discussion? We are a bunch of pigs at the trough (McDonalds) who only get off our lazy, SUV-driving, lard asses to drive to the drive up window. I play hockey, I run, I hike, I workout, I fence am I overweight? Yes. Without a doubt. Could I run farther, jump higher, hike longer and out skate you and your Atkins Diet? You're damn right I could.
BAH.
Between the days of April 04 and April 12 (9 days), Amy and I traveled ... a lot. We drove from Saginaw, Michigan to Phoenix, Arizona ... 5400 miles. We were as far north as Devil’s Tower, Wyoming, as far west as Grand Canyon, Arizona and as far south as Tucson, Arizona. In the next week, we will be posting pictures, memories, maps and pseudo-diaries chronicling this commencing journey. It was spectacular.
If you read this site regularly then you will have already noticed the change in color. There is work to be done still ... colors for comment posting have not yet been changed.
<bad_pun>Tiger is prowling.</bad_pun>
Steve Jobs is going to preview OS X "Tiger" at this years Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2004. For the record, I don't use an Apple computer. However, I know one day ... proabably when I have an extra $3000 or so ... I will succumb to temptation.
"will Calgary take Detroit in 6? No."
Well, I was proven wrong. Not only did Calgary take Detroit in 6 ... but they did it with two consecutive shutouts.
Last night, Curtis Joseph was the best player on the Red Wings team. The only thing Joseph didn't do was skate the puck to the other end and score a goal.
I tripped over some interesting technologies that are up and coming in the battle against SPAM...
SPF appears to be the more promising of the three major 'competing' SPAM answers. I am considering registering SPF entries in my DNS.
Microsoft has a Caller ID proposal.
And Yahoo! has partnered with Sendmail to bring DomainKeys.
I have to read more technical specs before I make a final decision on which of these initiatives gets my support ... however at this point, SPF is the frontrunner.
ARGH. The Wings ... my team ... lost game 5 to fall behind in their playoff series against the Calgary Flames.
And then ... to add insult to injury ... or rather, injury to insult ... Steve Yzerman was hit with a stray puck and is out indefinitely.
Tonight is game 6 ... will Calgary take Detroit in 6? No. I think the Wings have more pride then that.
