A lot of people are upset with the just announced pricing for Movable Type 3.0, on geeklair, I've got 7 personal weblogs with 6 authors, so I would need the $150 (discounted to $120) version if I want to upgrade.
I'm not sure if MT 3.0 is going to have enough things that I want to make me want to upgrade, and I don't think the other people who use it on my machine use it enough for me to justify buying it for them.
If I get some spare time, I might build a quick webobjects application that can do what I want (I'm not sure yet if I'll try to have it use the same database schema as MT 2.661, or if I'll just have it be able to import the data from an MT export).
I don't think it's all that unreasonable to charge what they are charging, but with all the backlash the company seems to be getting right now, it will be interesting to see how they respond.
I just happened to log onto their site yesterday to look at some documentation and saw their 3.0 pricing. Grrr. Let me know what I need to do, if anything.
I can't tell from their site what is really new with 3.0 (aside from TypePad).
If there are good new features, I might spring for the upgrade. Otherwise, I might just leave the current version installed since it is working fine for me...
Slashdot picked it up.

Crazy.
Maybe I'll look at WordPress or Text Pattern (presumably, both can eat MT export files).
I'll just wait and see what happens, maybe there are some cool things in MT 3.0 and I'll want to pay for it :)
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Looks like they have a free version for single users. Wonder how scaled down it is...?
They said that it's the exact same code. The license is a 'we trust you to buy the right license' sort of thing.
I have a feeling that they'll be adjusting the licensing terms.
I would bet money on that. 8^)
