These Swiss army knives are so cool.
I've been thinking about how it might be a good idea to get a USB thumb drive of some sort (they are getting ever cheaper, and I could set up a rudimentary $HOME and/or subversion repository on it). It would be a good extra backup drive for very important stuff if nothing else.
Two thoughts:
(1) Isn't a back-up meant to be left in a secure location?
(2) How will normal maintenance (oil, sharpening, etc.) affect the USB device?
1. What location is more secure than on my person? ;-) This would be an additional - easy to access and restore from - backup. Or just a way to have a bunch of useful files with me all the time (which I could already do with my iPod but even easier to carry around since it would be on my keychain).
2. The USB drive can be removed from the knife, so you could keep it away from anything that might damage it while you oil/sharpen/whatever and then reconnect it when you're done.
I think this is a great gadget myself, but I'm afraid I'd forget I had it on me at the airport. That would be a bad scene.
There's a usb watch on the market that would make more sense for me, but it ain't pretty.
Yeah, I always have to remember to take my tiny pocket knife off of my keychain before flying (even though a pen would be more lethal than its tiny tiny blade).
I've seen that watch too, and wished it was more attractive myself.
